Restroom Famous before an audition

Post Represents: Friday, August 10, 2012

There is a video below that wasn't planned or staged. I thought it would be cool to record myself getting and ready for my audition and....Well check out the video for yourself.

Fuse Network Promo - NON UNION
Audition Time: 4:45:00 PM
Role Name: Guy Dancing On Table
Run/Usage: Fuse Network
Description: Males legally 18 years old. Various ethnicities and body types. He should be interesting looking and look like "Character"....not just a good looking guy. He is NOT the cool guy or part of the "in crowd", but more of the misfit type....Offbeat. He is the type of guy who stays on the internet all day long watching videos on You Tube. He is dancing on a table in the dining room while a party is going on. He reaches his hand out to a girl who proceeds to climb up and dance with him. They invite more and more people on the table to dance with them on the table.

Wardrobe: NICE CASUAL. SOMETHING YOU WOULD WEAR TO A HOUSE PARTY.

YOU MUST BE LEGALLY 18 YEARS OLD. THINK MORE CHARACTER WITH WARDROBE AND PERFORMANCE...THESE ARE NOT THE "BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE" OR "IN CROWD" POPULAR PEOPLE. THEY ARE MORE THE MISFITS OR CHARACTERY PEOPLE.

Final Thoughts

Similar occurrences like the one in the restroom happens often but since this can't be planned the camera is normally not rolling. Getting recognized by someone when the camera is rolling takes a bit of luck. I did get lucky last June when I was on the train.

In relation to the audition, I actually got a call about it around 9pm later the same night. They called to tell me I'm on the "avail" list. I building excitement until I heard the word "avail." I've been on the "avail" list many times before and I never got it in the end. The "avail" have always meant one of two things to my knowledge.

1. They have selected who they want and if one drops and then I'm up next.

2. They selected me but they don't want to confirm with me as of yet.

The casting person told me that he made a choice  but he's still going to send my audition video to the producers. Obviously, if the producers liked me then the end result will be better than the past.    The only thing that made this "avail" different is the fact the casting director gave me his home and cell numbers. He was adamant about me calling if another project wants me for the same date.

We'll see what happens.

Post Represents: Wednesday, July 11, 2012

My landlord told me that she was recently interviewed by someone and she told the interviewer about me in case she wanted to interview me. I did contact the person but mainly if they needed to ask me any additional questions about my landlord.

I didn't know at the time but the interview was video taped.

Willing in Pride

I'm not sure how well I conveyed the significance of this proud moment but its true about what they say. Where there is a will there is a way. Low on energy, I woke up late and decided not to do my show. Guilt of not achieving my set radio show goal began to resonate. After 2:30pm I made the decision to find some find someone online on Facebook and the very first person I instant messaged was willing. I have never worked with anyone on any of blog talk shows that responded so quickly. Before I could blink she emailed me her photos. By the time I started to set up my show I realized 3:30pm was my last chance of the day until 8pm to schedule the show. I informed Tamara Diahann and within 18 mins we got on the call in line, performed a pre-interview and at exactly at 3:30pm (PST) we were on the air.

Tamara, thank you so much for pulling through last minute. It was truly last minute Not until after the show, I checked our previous corresponding messages on Facebook and I realized I initially invited her to be a guest on The Motown Maurice Show in 2010. I totally forgot about that. She wasn't able to accept at the time but she was definitely on time today.

I don't get paid to do my blog talk radio show but I certainly reap rewards for maintaining my commitments to myself.

Its a Convertible Vacuum

Post Represent: Tuesday, April 17, 2012

On Monday, I left the house with plans to have tea with my new friend Ashley and following that head to an audition for We The People. We The People is one of the courtroom shows. Only 50% of my plans deemed effective yesterday. After much contemplation I decided not to go to the audition. I wasn't interested in an hour bus ride, I had a phone conference to plan, plus I don't have the best impression with courtroom shows.

I had an audition for America's Court on my 15th day in LA and it was a horrible experience. I arrived early, waited for hours while other came in and left quickly. After hours, I become impatient and left. It was ridiculous. That audition put a bad taste in my mouth for courtroom shows. Since that date I've seen the same posting for America's Court and even received a call to come in and audition again. I gladly turned it down. Read about the actually experience here:

Related Post: Day 15 in LA (1 out of 2 in Auditions)

Moreover, later in the day I received an email that invited to audition for the following day if I couldn't make it. After receiving that, I figured I might as well go. I was still reluctant but I confirmed with myself that it was necessary to go because I've been feeling burnt out by spending to much time in my house box planning for my Future of Late Night Initiative. Cast or not, I needed to get out the house for a while.

I arrived today with my new flattened hair strategy, hoping this time they'll find a decent role/type for me.  Compared to my courtroom audition in 2010 this environment was in a wide open lobby with about 10 other African Americans present. When the audition started, the guy in casting gave a scenario and choose me first as a plaintiff. He choose a girl as a defendant and we went at it for a good while.

After my session, they choose a few more people (I don't recall everyone being selected) and in the last session the choose me again. I ran with it and my improv session ended with laughter. I argued with this guy for selling me a over priced vacuum cleaner. In the end, I told the judge that he's really a car salesman. Following that I told him, "Your selling the vacuum like your selling a convertible." In response he said, "Its a convertible vacuum." Everyone laughed and I didn't even have a come back for that.

Motown Maurice leaving the We The People audition in Culvey City

Final Thoughts

A few hours after I got home I received a call telling me that I'm booked for Friday. I'm actually looking forward to it. The pay is small. Its less then what I get at music videos but I'm also there for half the time. My experience was awesome and nothing like my experience on day 15 with America's Court.

The irony to today's casting for We The People is if I was cast for America's Court I would not of been able to be apart of this show. America's Court would of been the past if I was apart of it. We The People is the present and future. Lets see what happens.

Congratulations from UCB

Post Represent: Monday, April 2, 2012

Less than 12 hours after I published UCB Diversity Scholarship Perhaps I received a congratulations email from Upright Citizens Brigade. The email stated that I have been awarded one class credit as a part of the UCB Training Center’s Diversity Program.

I now have the option to use my credit for one course in either the Improvisation or Sketch Writing Programs. I'm definitely going for the Improvisation Program. The credit is eligible for one year from this date. Meaning I can use it anytime a class is available within a years time. This class is going to add tremendously to my stage presence as a late night talk show host. This is a true blessing that I am truly grateful for. Its an honor. I really want to start now but I have "Future" related obligations to orchestrate.

In the previous post I thoroughly thanked my good friend Raymond D. Sweet for going beyond the call of duty and discovering the diversity program for me. Now it is imperative that I thank my UCB source contact, Matt Shore. I was homeless the day Matt told me about the program. In an imaginary compartment of my mind I was hoping he would offer me a his couch or floor for a night or two. What he ended up doing was actually 100 time better. He suggested that I intern for UCB and after a few flips, turns and discoveries, Matt's kind gesture lead to my acceptance into UCB's diversity scholarship program.

Matt Shore thank you so much. You were at the right place at the right time. I saw you at that same Subway shortly before I left for holiday break and immediately upon my return back you were there to bestow me with this gift.

The main reason my imagination was floating when I saw you was because I'm so defined in my quest I'm come to acknowledge that any and everyone that comes into my life enters with a purpose. There is no doubt in my mind that Matt was at Subway with a purpose and the task was fulfilled.

Again Matt, I am humbly grateful that you were chosen to as the messenger. Your recommendation to UCB was my first gift of 2012 and has set a standard for may more gifts to come. Thank you.

UCB Diversity Scholarship Perhaps

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

Today, I had the prestigious opportunity to interview for a Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) Diversity scholarship.

Motown Maurice waits for his interview for Upright Citizens Brigade's Diversity Scholarship.

Whether I received the scholarship or not is still unknown but how I was bestowed with this opportunity tops my 2012 list of amazing stories continuum.

It all started on Wednesday, January 18 2012 (Must read post for previous details). Matt Shore advised me to contact someone at UCB to acquire an internship. After I sent an email to the appropriate person I was told I'm not eligible to intern because it requires that I'm enrolled in there classes first.

Shortly after I posted the scenario on my blog my long time friend and fan Raymond D. Sweet contacted me on Facebook. He read my blog and shared this advice.

Thursday, January 26, 2012

"...I know you are opposed to loans, but have you considered it at all for school. Especially going to UCB. That would be freaking amazing. Does UCB school qualify for like financial aide. Ok. Im going to look."

My response to him was as follows, "I have the worst credit in the world right now and I won't qualify for nothing. Trust me on that. However, I'm sure the subject of UCB didn't come up in vain. You know my journey. Everything always come around full circle. There is much purpose with you bring up UCB and it will come up again soon. I've learned the patterns of my quest."

I figured the conversation ended there. I didn't expect Raymond to take his statement"Im going to look," literally and beyond. Completely upon his own account Raymond contacted UCB and found the email address to the person I previously mentioned. On his own account, without even acknowledging me Raymond sent UCB this email.

Hello.....

I am writing on behalf of a friend who I believe can learn a lot and add a lot to your program. I know on the surface you guys probably don't offer financial aide, but maybe there is something deep down that I don't know about that could assist him attending your school.  Or even a work trade situation. Maybe he can clean up the place at night or file papers and actually he is a terrific videographer and editor.  When I worked at Verizon Wireless he created a couple of videos for us.

I know you get these requests everyday and everyone is special and brings something amazing to the table and has a sob story, but please if there is any help I would like him to be able to take advantage.  Perhaps he could work free first and then take the classes. He has a blog(who doesn't), but the point is he can help you with it on the site. He has his own equipment so he could load up some of the sketches online more timely.

......., I'm begging you to help me help my friend take classes in your program. He moved to LA like everyone else with no money no real connections and no where to live. But he is working hard at it and I believe you and UCB can be instrumental in helping him achieve his goals as he can help UCB with some of its goals.

Sincerely,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The response to Raymond was...

Hi Raymond,

We do have an internship program but students must be currently enrolled to apply. We also have a Diversity Scholarship (I don't know if this would apply to your friend), for more information on that you can contact ..........

Best,
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Who would of ever known about a diversity scholarship. I certainly wasn't asking the right questions but Raymond sure knew how to get it out of them. I can never ever say I don't have anyone in my corner. Raymond has been in my corner, in Tampa, FL since approximately 2006 or earlier. Back before I entered into the late night race. Back when I was doing my monthly discussion forums Raymond was a loyal supporter of mine. As a matter of fact Raymond was the main person, if not the only person to provide me with critical feedback of my shows and performances. While everyone else was patting my back and telling I did a such good job, Raymond was the sole voice telling me I could do better.

Beyond that, Raymond continues to call and check up on me continuously. His effort to keep in touch is invaluable. Especially since I'm not the best on making the initial phone call. Raymond, thanks to you, I think the interview went well. During the interview I was told that they narrowed a list of 200 and I was one of the 45 choose to come in. Knowing that alone is extremely satisfying.

Once the person informed Raymond who's in charge of the diversity scholarship, Raymond forwarded the information to me and I immediately sent the person an email requesting consideration. I sent the email on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. It took a while but finally on Thursday, March 1, 2012 I received a scholarship application through email. I filled out the application it by the 15th which was the deadline. Judging by they  read on the application, I received the official invitation to come in for an interview today (Tuesday, March 27, 2012. )

Motown Maurice continues to wait for his Upright Citizens Brigade's Diversity Scholarship.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the interview went well. I was blunt but not overbearing about my quest to become a late night talk show host. I at least tried to keep the conversation balanced. They had questions for me and I answered. I had questions for them and they answered. I was suppose to find out something over the weekend but I'm sure I'll know something during week 81. Again, I was chosen out of 200 or more people. That's something to be proud of. Nothing of this would of been possible if it wasn't for my faithful friend, Raymond D. Sweet. Thank you so much.

Once I find out something you will be the first to know Raymond. I am truly blessed and this is another testament to all my continuation of amazing story added to my quest.

February of Blessings

Post Represents: February 2012

Despite the lost of Don Cornelius, Whitney Huston and David Peatson, February was a month filled with an plethora of blessings. Two of my favorite were the following.

1. Black History in the Making by Breanna Rittman

2. Homeless Era Obliterated

A blessing that can't be described with words

Then there's a blessing that can't be described with words. This blessings in particular was something I was far from expecting. The best way to describe this blessing is to say its from God. I can't make sense of it in any other way. Here's my best chronological recollection of this phenomenal blessing bestowed upon my life. When your done reading it, try and make sense of it yourself. If you can.

On Friday, February 10, 2012, I received a message Facebook Message from an old college from named Grinette. The following message read as followed.

Hey what is your cell number/email/etc.? I don't normally see your messages on my updates but I'm glad I did today.I want to extend a hand of friendship to you the way you did for me way back when in Tally. I'm committing to paying that 200 for you for the next 5 months because I love you and want to see you follow your dreams because you are so talented. I want to thank you again for literally falling out of the sky when I needed you (not sure if you even remember the details) and would consider an honor to do the same. Talk to you soon hun.

Almost immediately I responded with:

I'm lost for words. How do I begin to respond? The only thing I can think of right now is how much I love you. I remember helping you but "failing out of the sky." I didn't do all that..What your offering me is far from the same. Which is why I can't find the words to tell you how much I appreciate just your thought. The thought alone surges my soul with the power invincibility. You are a blessing. I am so looking forward to talking you to you.

In the next message,Grinette confirmed that she would call me the following Sunday and she did. She further explained that she rarely checks her Facebook feed and by doing so this time she viewed a post about my living situations. She was flabbergasted by what she learned.

I took this opportunity to share my whole story leading as far back to when I graduated from college until now. Then she followed through by repeating what she stated in the Facebook message. Grinette is committing herself to sending me $200.00 a month for the next 5 months. Her explanation for doing so is to her return the favor for what I did for her in college. I clearly remember helping Grinette in college but it was a small favor I never thought about twice. All I did was allow her to store her belongings in my room while she went away on an internship or so. Whats the big deal about that? Apparently, its big enough for her to remember approximately 11 years later.

Grinette further told me that I probably don't realize it but I have helped a lot of people in HCC (The Haitian Cultural Club). HCC is the organization I've served as a member and later president for a year. Her statement made me think about another unique statement my first roommate for 9 months in LA told me when I was getting ready to move out.

5 days after we spoke (February 17th) she sent her first offering as promised. My new home is my first home LA. Its also the first time I've been obligated to pay for a place to live since March of 2010. That's approximately 1 year and 10 months. That's almost two years since I've had the obligation of paying a rent/ lease.

Before my current place, I've had 3 mandatory bills. My phone bill and two storage's. In storage in Florida and one in LA. Which makes an approximate total of $250.00 per month. As for food, I'm still on food stamps and I'm still loving it. Upon finding my new home. I had consider how I'm going to find an additional $200.00 per month. My Hollywood Blvd gimmick idea I came up with while at the movies one day was close to mind but I never had to use that idea. God sent Grinette. She came into my life to sponsor this additional expense. In a sense, I'm still not paying for rent/lease.

When Grinette and I spoke, it was the first time we spoke in over 10 or 11 years. How does she suddenly appear into my life and grant me with such a blessing. This is unheard of. If you are able to make sense of it please expound. The only sense I can make for this blessing is that Grinette is one of the newest angels placed in my life to make sure I succeed. Everything about this is so random and unheard of. Its nothing my imagination would of ever thought of. The timing and preciseness is impeccable.

Grinette, I know I helped you in college but what your doing for me is beyond help. What your doing for me near by unbelievable. You are truly a God sent. When I was holding your stuff in college, I was content with being able to burn your CD's. You had some jams. Carl Thomas, Musiq Soulchild,...Your music collection was rewarding enough. Now 10 years later I'm still reaping rewards, wow. Grinette God bless you. I can't thank you enough. By being obedient to God, you have made the next several chapters of my quest possible. As you are a blessing to me, I will soon look forward to the day I can do the same for you. Grinette, thank you on trillion times over.

The Cup Runs Over & Over

Just when I thought the cup was going to stop running over, it began to pour out even more. Grinette started and electric reaction. I shared the story with my Ma, Sister Prayer Joan, lol and she confirmed to spend me something as she randomly does. Then I told Pam, my second mom and to my surprise she decided to send me something. The following week they were both received.

Around the same time, one of my previous guests on The Motown Maurice Show, Charles Mattocks offered to send me half of my next months rent on Facebook. Although, I haven't received confirmation for the donation the thought is worth plenty.

I can't conclude the blessings of February without mentioning the message I've received from Karen D. A woman who I never met before but has been following my pursuit. In her own words through a Facebook message she expected to see something big to happen to me by now. Without even asking, she began to pour out her support toward my quest by introducing me to her prominent contacts through email. This story is still developing and I look forward to to sharing the progress of her support.

I have a very vivid imagination. I'm always thinking about all kinds of crazy things daily. Things that ends up happening to me are on boundaries of my imagination I haven't even discovered yet. The unexpected blessings I continue to receive makes every moment of this quest worth wild. As my Ma always tells me, "You are blessed."

Everyone, thank you so much for making February such a magical month. I wouldn't of made it this far if it wasn't for my all my gift givers. The number of people I have in my corner uncountable. There's an army of soldiers on my quest with me and the number continues to grow. Together we will define The Future of Late Night Television and much more.

Riding Friendly

I met my friend S.A.M at the Grammy Award Winner Bonnie Pointer (Pointer Sisters) NEW CD Release Party. A week later she showed up and she's been significantly helping me along my quest ever since. To the point where I've barely had to use the public transportation because she has been my driving chauffeur. My schedule haven't been as busy as it was with auditions earlier this year but when I have to go somewhere, S.A.M takes me there. For course I do what I can to contribute for gas. Most importantly, whenever I eat she eats. Thank God for EBT. Since early November, I've used the train maybe 2 or 3 times. I can't remember the last time I used the bus.

Honestly, I feel kind of spoiled. I still appreciate the public transportation but this is the life. It somewhat mirrors the life I soon want to live. I truly don't care to be behind the wheel but I love to be driven around.

Motown Maurice next to his temporary Honda Element

Unfortunately, since Monday morning S.A.M has been sick. As of right now I'm at her house helping her back into good health. A side from her not feeling well, she has openly and willing giving me full access to her car. She even said something like, "God gave me this car for you."  I'm not a fan of driving but I feel comfortable accepting this blessing. Its still just as good to know I drive and return the car back. I'm more then certainly not interested having the responsibility of owning a car.

Moreover, at the rate my life has been lately, I really don't have much to be patient with the transportation right now. Plus its nippy at night. I remember being cold this time last year waiting for the bus. Finding parking for the car sucks but if does feel good to pick up and arrive to my destination at this speed.

On Tuesday, I had an audition off of 5th street and Santa Monica. It took about 20mins to arrive there. Normally on the bus, it would take an hour and a half to arrive there. I never had a problem with the length of time before. I still don't, but as of right now this car is a gift for me.

I was a bit late to the audition because I'm currently committed to Hustle & Shuffle, my online radio talk show. The audition was for 11:55am and I arrived by car after 1pm or so. The person in casting teased me a bit because I arrived during a time slot filled with beautiful women. Nevertheless, she took me in without any problems. If I had to take the bus, I probably would of missed the audition altogether.

This car is perfectly on time in my life. Its the same car I had to sleep in 3 days ago because of unplanned circumstances. I have an audition tomorrow at 9am that may conflict with my online radio show and this ride is going to help me speed up the process.

Motown Maurice is back behind the wheel. For now at least.

EBT & Doritos Tag Team

Post Represents: Saturday, November 5, 2011

The financial burden of this Doritos endeavor has solely been handled by my roommate Raewyn Bailey. She hired the team, the lights, purchased the props and so much more. I'm barely surviving off of my little food stamps and that's been in jeopardy lately.

On Tuesday (November 1, 2011) I had a scheduled appointment with my GROW case worker. Basically, its the division that overseas my $200.00 monthly EBT cash and also makes sure I'm following the GROW guidelines. I had to complete one of two assignments before my meeting today. My options were to start attending a GROW study class everyday for a few weeks (There's no way in the world that's happening!). My other option was to get a job and show a pay stub. Of course I don't have a job and I'm not getting one. Therefore, my plan was to ask a couple of my sources to write a check for me that shows I've been working/interning. The amount didn't matter, just as long as I can prove I was working. They even accept personal checks.

I tried both sources and they were both uncomfortable doing it for their own particular reasons. I understood the situation from one source more than the other but business is business. I have to respect their decision. My plans failed and I was facing the reality of losing my food stamps money. However, I soon came up with a bright idea. The last time I did extra work was on September 17, 2011 for the De La Soul Music Video. I got $100.00 for that gig and it was the last check I received. I still wasn't sure if it was going to work because they check was made out to Motown Maurice Productions. I figured they only wanted checks with government names.

Moreover, I went in to see my case worker to fight for my food stamps and I didn't even have to put up a finger. He accepted it with it saying Motown Maurice Productions and all. Not only did he accept it, he blessed me with extra cash money. Last month, he told me if I brought in documentation on letter head from my employer stating I need support for uniform and transportation, GROW will finance it.

I completely forgot about it and I didn't even bring up the topic. Once he approved the check he looked at me and said, "Your going to need transportation right?" He pressed a button and it was processing. He also said, "You look like you could use a hair cut and clothes for your job." He pressed the button again and it was processing. In total, I was set to receive an additional $140.00 within 24 hours. I wasn't even accepting this. Praise the lord! Amen! As I was leaving, I thanked him and he said "This will buy you a little more time." He also told me I look like a entrepreneur type. I looked at him and smiled and said, "Yes I am."

I mentioned all this because the $140.00 that I received, that I wasn't expecting, put me in a great position to finally financially contribute to the Doritos contest endeavor. I was proudly able to pay for the food that fed the production team.

I'm pushing the cart and Raewyn is doing all the shopping.

Got to have Bananas

No body eats salad at a production shoot but  its a must have anyway.

The cart is fulling up.

Can't forget the Doritos. Its the reason why we're here.

The car is getting too full now. Whoa!

Looks like healthy choices!!!

Final Thoughts

The food cost about $130.00  or so and this is only a small faction of the production budget. Thus, just being able to pay for it with unexpected money is an Amazing Miracle in my quest.

Pin Point EBT

Post Represents: Tuesday, September 13, 2011

My 2010 income taxes has been the most daunting task of my quest and I am amazed on how financially swiftly I was able to get it done. Every since 2004/2005 I've requested extensions for my business and personal return. I'm allowed to do that because I own a business. The thought of completing my 2010 taxes horrified me because of all the expenses I accumulated through The Motown Maurice Show earlier that year.

I finally started piling all the information in week 47. Since then, I've been back and forth with my account about the specifics. In the back of my mind I'm anticipating a bill worth $350- $450. That's generally been the range over the years.

He sent me the bill today and to my surprise it was a bill whooping $659.00. I apparently owned him for my quarterly reports throughout the year. Immediately I'm thinking, "Where am I going to get that kind of money." I know my mom gave me an emergency credit card for food and transportation but not for this.

My last financial miracle: Checks Delayed with a Purpose allotted me some cushion but not enough. After a few moments of thinking I thought of my new EBT cash money. Last Friday, September 9, 2011
my EBT cash came in for the first time. I wanted to use that to purchase my long desired Toshiba Thrive but my taxes were due the following Thursday. I couldn't waste anytime. I didn't even know how to access that money. I took a wild guess and shocking enough it worked at a Chase Bank ATM.

I pulled all $240 from my EBT cash another $120 from my personal. Added it together will that bit left over from that Baggage money (Checks Delayed with a Purposeand I had the money for my taxes.

By the time I took care of the bill I was left with less then $100 in my personal and less than the same in my business account.

Final thoughts

The moral to this story is the accurateness of the EBT cash. This tax bill needed immediate attention due to the blessing of the EBT cash I got it done. What blessing!

Food Stamp & Motel Rich

Post Represents: Wednesday, August 10, 2011

Now this is a story all about how I went from sleeping like this...

Motown Maurice sleeping on the floor of...

To sleeping like this...

Motown Maurice sleeping good at King Palace Motel

After sleeping in that fitly nasty community housing facility for 2 weeks, then sleeping on the floor of my acting theater for about 5 nights (Shsss! Keep that on the low low!). I now have my own single bed studio apartment. Okay... Let me not exaggerate. It’s not exactly a studio apartment. It’s a motel but to me it’s heaven. This is just one of the great unexpected blessings that has been bestowed to me this week.
It all started on the morning of (Monday, July 25, 2011). It was my 2nd time waking up at the community housing and I was on my way to interview with The Electric Carnival. When I jumped aboard the Blue Line train heading towards downtown, I sat next to 3 young gentlemen. Within a second or two one of them said to me, “Hey don’t you live in that house?” They told told me lived in the sister complex adjacent to mine.

We talked for awhile and I realized that were cool and not like a lot of the people that lived in that house. One of the guys name is Danny and he was well spoken and I could tell we were both on the same page in terms of the understanding the world and the “Humans” that live here. When he referred to people as "humans" I knew immediately we’re both on the same level. I often refer to people as "humans" as same way he did.

They told me they were on their way to get food stamps. When we got off train we departed with salutations and headed in different directions. After a long 14 hour or more day, I arrived back at the house and I noticed they were in their dinning room area. I went in and we chatted for a while. Travis told that they got their EBT card and it should be activated by now. They told me it was a smooth process and that Danny was the source of the connection.

I believe he then subtly hinted his willingness to help me at through the process at that moment. I asked a few questions and doubted the possibility of myself getting food stamps. Either that or I wasn't too interested at the moment. I received food stamps once in Tallahassee, FL while I was in college and it was drooling experience. I've also been on the move and I really didn't want to invest anytime in something other than a quest related project.

Somehow the conversation changed subjects and I paid more attention listening to Danny’s musical ambitions and aspirations. Before I left, I gave them my signature flier and Danny among the others appeared impressed. I left and nothing related to food stamps crossed my mind again.

Fast forward to real time, which is about 3 weeks later. Today, I had a planned rehearsal with the producer of New Jack Web Attack and I decided to practice out in this open field on Wilshire/Oxford.

Open field on Wilshire and Oxfod

While I was rehearsing, I made a few calls and just after I got on the phone about 25 yards ahead of me was Danny walking. Ironically, I saw him the day before leaving the train as I was entering. He was on the escalator going up and I was on escalator going down. I didn't make myself noticeable because I didn't want to miss my train plus he seemed very focused. Today I felt lead to approach him. Awkwardly trying to manage the phone conversation, while running with my script in my hand, I got his attention.

He was patient and the moment I got off the phone we began to share nothing but pure universal knowledge. First, he generally shared with me a few updates of his life since he left the community housing. We both are disgusted with the un-professionalism of that place. Then positively and confidently I explained why I left that place and shared the predicaments of my current living conditions. He listened and from that moment on, every word he spoke was ingrained with a personal blessing customized for me.

He began to tell me everything he did for those two other guys the day we met. In addition to receiving food stamps, I was informed for the first time about The Grow Program (GR Program). The GR Program also supplies a motel voucher and pending eligibility for cash money. I knew nothing about it and he ensured that the process was easy. I agreed to meet him at the corner of where we departed on the day we met. Before we left, he also blessed me with some Starbucks and our universal conversations continued.

The next day was planned and designed with the intention of receiving this on time blessing. He woke up a little too late to meet up with me but Danny was supportive and guided over phone on where to go. I arrived at the Metro Special Services Center approximately before 9am. The process was smooth and well organized. I did exactly what Danny told me to do and everything executed well. I told them I was homeless, filed out a moderate amount of paper work and in the matter of a few hours, I had a $130.00 food stamp card, 10 transportation tokens and a motel voucher for two weeks.

A few people in my life have been expressing their concern about my living situation. From the photographer who has been recently took my pictures for the newspaper and my Familiar Connection Nike. Nevertheless, not having a place of my own has been the least of my concerns. I recently told my former roommate (Interim Guardian Angel) I don’t worry about such things because when a man has chooses his definite purpose all paths are paved for him. As it is written in the Alchemist, “Life is really generous to those who pursue their personal legend.”

The irony of this situation is that I have a friend named Raymond S. who calls to check on me often. In several occasions he told me to get food stamps. Almost 11 months later the subject continued to rise but this time it came in full force. I knew immediately that I had to act on this. “A blessing ignored becomes a curse.” There was no way in the world I was going to let this blessing become a curse.

As I type I’m writing out of my big time Motel and I'm food stamp rich. Check out an exclusive video of my new place and pictures of some of my first EBT items purchased.

Food Stamp Rich

Final thoughts

This is beyond an amazing story for a man who has been homeless, and spending long days in random cafes and restaurant establishments. I’m straight balling right now. This is actually my very first place with privacy in LA. I spent the majority of my time in LA on a living room futon. 3 weeks ago, I was on the top bunk of a twin size bed. Last week I was on the floor of you know where. Now I’m sleeping on a full size bed with super basic cable and my own bathroom. This is great and I’m loving it. Most importantly I can stretch out and get stuff done. Now I don’t have to leave Starbucks when it close. I can keep on grinding. Plus their is a library across the street and I'm able to pick of their Wi-Fi signal. How great is that?
This is a special thanks to my newest gift giver Danny. Find him on twitter @DanielDevlin. Like him on Facebook. As I said, over the phone I really appreciate what you have done for me. Although we both agreed that when a man does a good deed it shouldn't be with the intentions of receiving. At the same, this gesture is truly appreciated and I will make it my duty to honor your offerings.
