Week 370: Snake Into Success

Weekly Written Review

The Snake is coming. I haven't blogged much about Snake Outta Compton but there's so much happening right now it's time. It's literally been a year in the making and finally the first trailer just came out on Monday night. I was playing tennis when I got the notice and the video/article blew me away. I was noticeable since multiple times I immediately had to share it with a tennis buddy. The response was great. As the week continued I started getting Facebook tags and phone texts. The trailer went viral. It's been getting made coverage. The Hollywood Reporter, Indiwire and beyond...   Youtubers even started to do reaction videos to the trailer alone. That was nothing compared to a response I got on Saturday. At an audition on Tuesday, I reconnected with an acting comrade. His name is Albert Minero Jr.. Later that day he reached out about a "gig" and he ended up inviting to a party on Saturday. I've been in the spirit of going out so I went. We talked about Snake Outta Compton at the audition. He actually previously heard of it because he had a friend that worked as a line producer. By the time I got to the party, Albert told everyone we spoke to that I'm about to "blow up." Albert saw the trailer and loved it. At one point he couldn't stop talking about it. He was genuinely excited for my upcoming success. He endorsed me as a quiet guy in Hollywood that keeps his had down but puts in the work. He gave the film's trailer positive reviews predicts its going to be huge and I would get work from it. I recall him saying it's time for a new generation of Hollywood to actors to take over. He even compared me as the new Chris Tucker. I was truly humbled. Albert is good peoples and I'm truly glad we crossed paths and reconnected. A few years back he saw me walking down the street, he stopped and gave me a ride. Every interaction with him is filled with great energy. I'm glad we've reconnected and most likely we'll stay connected this time. He's the type of person you want to keep in your corner because you know he's got you in his. Check out a few Snake Outta Compton links:

Finally, my second highlight of week is with my belongings. Since early July the majority of my stuff has been in storage. As of Saturday, I have my stuff all in one place again. It's been a long time coming. The fact that this even happened is a miracle. With some unexpected advice from a random attorney my landlady overcame her fears (not without second guessing herself at least once on the day of) and we came to an agreement. She also gave me a two year extension to get famous. I think that's plenty of time to make it happen.  Moreover, it's good to have all must stuff back. In the beginning I would go to my storage often to get things. Over time I learned to survive without all that stuff. I started hand washing my clothes and keeping things simple. Even thought I got my stuff back in one place I still plan to keep things simple. I still plan to hand wash my clothes and down size my belongings as time progresses. In conclusion, it's good to have my TV back.

Week 369: Heatwave Check

Weekly Written Review

Is the booking heatwave over? I doubt it. This week was relaxed compared to week 367 but not every week is going to be that amazing. Some weeks will be more amazing and it takes weeks like this to set up that great greatness. Here's a couple things before I go. I proudly declined some background work this week. The main is because they tried to pull a fast one on me. I was notified by my agent during the week that I'm requested to be put on hold for a project I auditioned for. About 2 or 3 days past and I had no clue what this project was for. I couldn't even recall the audition video I sent in. Finally I got some wardrobe info on Friday and it stated background attire. That's not cool. Look, I'm not interested in background anymore but it doesn't mean I won't do it from time to time. I basically did some with BET weeks ago. The reason I declined this one is because that's not what I auditioned for. Not too mention the pay was really low and it was out of the area. No one is pulling a fast one on me anymore. On the bright-side, I thought it was going to conflict with an important audition on Saturday and it didn't. Aside from that, I had a few auditions this week. Three of which were commercials and two didn't exactly come from the agent the specializes in that area. Hey, I'm not complaining. Friday was actively intense. I played basketball and tennis. It's been a while since I did that. I had a slow start with tennis but I became the Burger King at the end of the night. Which means I became the king of the court among two other people. It's my first Burger King title and I'm looking to get many more :-)

* Switching at LuLu's

Monday, October 9, 2017

* Leaving LuLu's

* Tennis...I'm not sure if I acknowledged my rides home after tennis before but if I did here's a second time. For the majority of this year, after four or more hours of tennis I would have to wait for the train and bus. Transportation is much slower at night. That's not fun after a workout. That changed recently. I found out one of my tennis colleagues lives very close to me. When I play on Friday's I get a pick up and ride home. Most times on Monday's after tennis I have a ride home. This might seem simple but it's a big blessing.

Week 368: Double Incredible Blessings

Weekly Written Review

I started off this week working on a short film and I ended the same way working on a different short film. That's not even at the incredible part yet. Let's talk about what happened on Monday. On this day I had my callback/meeting with the Black Santa project. I sent in a tape last week. I immediately got a response directly from the casting director via text. She helped me out before with my festival in the past so we had each others phone numbers. However, she never sent me a text before. That's until saw this audition in which she loved. That led to the set up for this meeting. I arrived at 2pm and basically got thrown in the fire. I got a quick tour. Met a few people and then they started explaining things to me. Followed by asking me if I can present this story later. I was like "sure." I got fed. I was invited into their creative meetings with the all the big shots and I just flowed. After hours of being there I got a chance to read out loud what they gave me to the founder Baron Davis and many others and they loved it. Baron ended up making a character of me. By the time I left I was not only a story teller I was also Motown the Elf. I tried on some Elf ears and they loved it. Baron looked and said something in the likes of, "Everybody's going to know Motown the Elf." It was an incredible unexpected experience. I didn't leave until 6:30pm. The whole experience reminded me of the first episode of ABC's Scandal. The theme question of that show was do you want to be a gladiator.  It was similar to that because I later found out that I was already a legend at the office before I arrived. Everyone saw and loved my audition video. I basically got the job upon arrival. Now, what does this all mean. I'm still not completed sure All I know is that I believe in the project and there is an exponential amount of opportunities for me to grow and get exposure there. I'm blessed and thankful and will continue to positively embrace the unknown.

If you think the incredibility stops with the story above, it does not. Back story first. For most of this year, there has been uncertainty towards my living situation. Things got to peak crazy in July and I became homeless for a while. This is all because of my infamous garage. To some degree it was suppose to get demolished months ago. The expended part of the garage without a permit to be exact. My landlady paid for an extension. That extension is suppose to expire in November. With fear my landlady made plans to tear it down earlier. As early as Monday of next week. I was notified twice this week that I will have to move into the other side of the garage because my side is getting tore down. Jose the mechanic even came and gave my living quarters a peek. He's the one doing the job. At this point I already accepted my living fate. Until my landlady discovered something. Midweek she said she found out about a city program that will assist with paying for garage conversions. The reason they're probably doing that is to prevent homelessness. The irony...My eyes got lit. I started my research immediately. I found something but it only paid for 20% and it lasted from March to April. While researching I found something else that looked interesting. I found an attorney that specializes in garage conversion issues and he offered consultation. He was site very informative. I figured this would be my last hope. I printed out his info and sent him an email while I Kevin's house on Friday. We were about go out to a fashion week event. To my surprise he replied back with amble information. When I got home that night I told my landlady about him and requested for her to call him the next day. I couldn't call because I had a shoot all Saturday. She was open to the call. I told her maybe he might give you some good advice and if not, just go ahead with the garage tear down. Turning for my shoot on Saturday night I spoke to my landlady about the phone call and she had good news. He basically advised that the city isn't coming to inspect the garage in November. They got too many issues on their plate to worry about that right now. If may be 3, 4, 5 or more years before they inspect the place again. I don't know what kind of charm this guy had on my landlady but she became in favor of discontinuing the demolish plans. This was shocking because she normally reacts with fear. I told her I'm going to fight for my garage if it's my choice but his her decision. She said okay, but you have two years to make it big. We talked about payment I mentioned my storage situation. She invited my stuff back "again." I told her I'm going triple confirm a few times before I actually do it. Shamefully she admitted that backpedals and questioned why she does that. Then just like that my garage was saved. My home is saved. I was not expecting that. I was truly expecting the worse but instead I got the best.
