Weekly Written Review
This week was pretty incredible. Early in the week, I got a call about an upcoming music video shoot. Most of the time music videos confirm with an email or text but they kind of interviewed me over the phone. They asked for my age (cough cough) and they asked what type of music I like. I said, D'Angelo, Neo Soul, Prince, Michael, Bob Marley... and I even told them I started liking ACDC recently. Two days later they called back to confirm that I'm still available for the shoot on Thursday. Thursday came and we all met up in a Church's parking lot in Sherman Oaks. When I told them my name, they asked for my ID. I think that reminded him to check everyone elses ID. They eventually locked up our phones in a pouch. They kind telling us the shoot is for a new band. That's all we knew. That and they certainly didn't want any phones/cameras at the shoot. Finally a huge fancy black stretch party bus came and up picked us up. Then we were escorted to a house. We had to present tickets that they gave us to enter. The director introduced himself and told us the band is on the way and they want to capture behind scene footage of us partying. There was mad pizza, drinks and chips. Plus there was a DJ and the music was banging. When the camera was rolling I was certainly forming the fool. Hours passed and we repeated a lot of the same stuff until we finally got word the band arrived. We heard a familiar tune and the curtains dropped. To our grand surprise it was Maroon 5 with Adam Levine standing dead center. The performed Moves Jagger Twice and disappeared. Basically, it was birthday surprise for a teenage girl by her mom. The girl also had no idea this was going down. It was fun. I pushed my way in front of the stage singing a long with the girls like I really knew the words to the song. I knew the chorus but most of the song was me just moving my lips. They interviewed a few people afterward and they noticed me watching. The camera man said, "We got a lot of good looks from this guy, we got to some comment from him." I said a few things and I think they liked it. I wasn't happy with myself because I stumbled on couple words during the interview.
After the shoot I finally got my phone back with indication of an audition the next day. The best thing about that is that is was from the people who cast me for a music video a week or two before. Friday came, I auditioned and it went well. The shoot is the next day (Saturday) and they're suppose to inform me later that Friday if I got it or not. Mid-day I cancelled it out of my mind but around 7pm they texted me and said they would be making a decision within the next hour. The next hour came and the message started off with unfortunately...but they did want to book me for a two day music video the following week. I thought that was just as good or even better. So Saturday morning came. I was fighting with myself mentally on whether or not I wanted to play basketball in the morning. Still in bed, I got a phone call around 8:40am. It was the people from the audition yesterday. The same people that went with someone else for their shoot. They asked if I was still available for the shoot. I said, I can be." They told me they'll confirm in the next 30mins. In about 20mins I got confirmation. Thankfully the shoot was downtown which is close to me. After getting the first phone call I got there within an hour and the rest is history. Apparently, two people dropped out in the last min. In all the 45 music video bookings I've had in my career I believe is the first time a music video led to something bigger. What a blessing! The music video love is abundant.
