Week 384: Off Season Makes a Big Difference

Weekly Written Review

Between tennis and auditions, I've noticed great improvements. I did touch the basketball rim this week. It's the first time in a long time since I've done that so yes, there's improvement there also. I just got to fix my jump shot. I blame my shoulder, it's still a little funny. Moreover, it's all in the approach. In tennis, I'm simply just hitting the ball harder. Prior to my auditions, I'm taking more time with the script. I'm reading it more, allowing it to sit on my brain for a while as I develop my character. I'm walking into the auditions with more freedom and swag. Something great is about to happen. I'm claiming it. Watching and witness for yourself.

As side from that, I have to acknowledge how blessed I am. I had a photo shoot planned with my friend Kevin for Sunday. On the day of, he called and told me he couldn't do it because he hurt his ankle. I really wanted to get this photo shoot done because I grew a beard and I knew I would have to cut it soon. I was with my friend LuLu when she called. She's supposed to help out with the shoot. Simple stuff like sorting my clothes and holding the sun bouncer. I was in the situation when I had to think fast. Kevin offered his camera but he needed it back in at 3pm. That's in less than 3 hours. I decided to proceed with the shoot by training LuLu to take my photos. She never took professional photos before so the challenge was already preordained. I went home got my Canon camera body, went to Kevin's house to get his 85mm lens. By just using his lens I didn't have to return that in 3 hours. I had more time.

LuLu and I arrived at the WEHO library and got right to business. She was amazing laying out the clothes in perfect order. I did my part getting ready, hair and basic makeup for some forehead spots. Shortly afterward, we got started. She wasn't hard to train. She was willing to learn and gracefully took needed instructions. The culprit that wasn't cooperating was the sun. The sun was blazing and we had a lot of trouble finding a good spot. We made use of the situation at first at first then like magic the Sun started to go down. I was like a kid in a candy store taking advantage of the beautifully lit settings. At that point, we started to ease through the photo shoot. We spent most of our time on the rooftop tennis courts. My instincts later told me its' time to move. We use the side of the building for a while and one more spot near the entrance of the library. I had 14 looks to dress into and we got all 14 looks with the last inch of daylight available. It was a perfect day. No offense to Kevin but the shoot wouldn't have been so successful with him.

The photo shoot was magical. I can't even believe we were able to make it happen. The only reason it even happened was because of LuLu. This was her first time taking photos with a real DLSR camera and I truly believe she produced my best photo shoot in LA yet. My photos are credible. Of course my professional experience played a role but LuLu's professional heart is the reason we had such an amazing outcome. I'm truly blessed and greatful for LuLu's friendship and sincere deication to helping me. With all my heart Thank you LuLus! Namaste!

Week 382: An Even Greater Motivation

Weekly Written Review

As my last week in LA came to an end I started to ignite a new motivation. Seeing my father in his condition and the repairs needed for our house for over twenty years. It's time. My motivation to revitalize late night television is one thing but I'm now fighting for my parents more than ever before. Their lives needs an upgrade and they deserve it. They are my top investors. I told them multiple times during my trip to get ready. I'm predicting in the very near future I'm going to call and tell them it's time to move. I've been evading this Hollywood money for way too long. My powers are coming back with a new sense of swag and now is my time. It's my time because I said so.

2017 Year In Review - A Set Up For More

Here we go! It's that time of the year again. I was once excited about my yearly reviews. Thinking deep and attempting to conjure up fancy vocabulary words for my annual self-evaluation. I'm a veteran in this business now. Seven years plus and the reviews aren't fun anymore. Nonetheless, I will respect the system I started. 2017 was a fun year. 2016 marked the conclusion of my independent projects. I entered 2017 with a have fun mentality. As a result, I played a lot of tennis and basketball. I even got a Nintendo Switch in May and that added lots of joy into my journey. The fun part of 2017 was accomplished and there's no question about that. I'm also really proud of my tennis progress. I plan to keep all the fun I had with sports and video games throughout my duration on this planet.

Don't be mistaken, I had adversity. One week of homelessness in July to be exact. I overcame it and it doesn't matter anymore. The situation led me to some new headshots and a YMCA membership in which I still have. I love that place. Great full court basketball any time I want.

One month before my homeless experience I acquired a new agent. I wasn't even seeking one and they found me. It's a unique story and I'm thankful for that gift. My original agent has started to dissipate. I'm assuming that relationship will officially come to a conclusion soon. They're not getting me out anymore. My new agent represents a breath of fresh air my journeys needed and I'm exhaling well.

I had a little money in my pocket most of the year. I also embraced different revenue options. From figure modeling, photography assistance, production assisting and a brand ambassador. Background work is still a viable option.

I had a nice hand full of small bookings. That's because my new agent isn't against submitting me to smaller roles. I appreciate that. Big money projects still don't want to book me so I'll take as many small roles as I can.

A few of my favorite highlights from 2017 were directly booked. I didn't even have to audition.
I was booked from my photos and reel. One short film and a web commercial with no audition needed. Also, a few people that I worked with before reached out with me specifically in mind. It's always great to know when someone remembers and/or thinks of you.

Ther trailer release of Snake Outta Compton was also a treat. Patience will guide us to its release summer 2018.

It's been easy for me to say all year long that I retired from independent productions in 2017 but that's not entirely true. I spent 6 months planning the Wide aWoke Wednesday's Reunion and there's the time I spent with my screenplay. Earlier in the year, I got a bright idea to develop a pitch package to support my script. I was later informed it's called a pitch deck. I sent my script and the deck to a few people. Nothing came out of that but one lunch meeting in December gave me the spark I didn't know I was waiting for. That meeting led to me rereading, reediting and rewriting my screenplay. Most importantly, that meeting inspired the proper ended my script always needed. Basically, I've been on break the entire year until this one meeting.

This is the part where I write detailed predictions for 2018. I'm not doing that anymore. I just want more of what I had in 2017. More fun, more basketball, more tennis, more Nintendo Switch, more competition, more bookings and more money. Bigger roles, bigger opportunities and all the notoriety I deserve. With that being said, something dawned on me as I was talking to something over the phone recently. I still have no intentions of planning any events. I still have no independent project ideas in mind. The only thing I have close to my heart is my screenplay which is a heavy undertaking by itself. I don't know how to get a film made but some way I'm going to find out. My script needs all my attention and all my attention it will get in 2018. I was pretty much on break in 2017. I believe my spirit was resting up in 2017 for whatever it is that's about to happen in 2018.

Essentially, I had two strong periods with my screenplay in 2017. I don't even recall picking it up once in 2016. I know the road to making a screenplay is long and I'm ready to make love to the process in 2018. Whatever it takes. I'll be researching and creating everything I need to get my story made. I want my film released in 2020.

In conclusion, the more that I didn't get in 2017, I'll get that more, plus more in 2018.

Week 380: Smorgasbord of Whoa

Weekly Written Review

I'm so grateful that I made it through this week. Essentially this was my toughest week of 2017. I started planning for my big event this weekend six months ago and I booked my flight in advance. Nothing should go wrong but it did. Foolishly I missed my flight. I left from LAX on Sunday and arrived in Chicago with a 8-hour delay. I didn't sleep. I stayed up and watched Atlanta on Youtube TV yet I missed my flight. There's no reason that should've happened!! I was Wide aWoke and ready. As my flight time got closer I got confused for some reason. The gate info wasn't making any sense. I checked the departure board and I saw that I was at the wrong gate. I got to the new gate with time to kill so I bought a bagel. By the time I finished eating I realised I was at the wrong airline. Ran back to my original gate and it was too late. Now it's either get a standby flight at 4:30pm or wait until Wednesday. Unbelievable! On the Brightside, a beautiful lady named Jacklyn who also missed her flight and offered me coffee and a sandwich. We spoke for four hours straight (8:30am-12:30pm). I shared my story she shared hers. We inspired each other and she started crying when I told her she should write a book. Or connection was oddly serendipitous and we were glad to share Christmas morning with each other. I'm grateful. By the grace of God, there was room on my standby flight. Unfortunately, there wasn't any room on her flight and she had to wait until morning. I arrived home late Christmas night. At first, I was told a Wednesday flight was my only option. Thank God that didn't happen. The main reason is that my father needed me. Upon arrival the sight of my father was disheartening. He looked much worse than when I last saw him. He lost a lot of weight and he was in horrible pain. I played a big role in taking him to the doctor and emergency. The other reason has to do with the reunion I've been planning for the past six months. I would have been straight outta luck if I arrived on Wednesday. I might have had to rent a car and drive from Chicago to Tampa or something. Moreover, things worked out.

Wide aWoke Wednesday's Reunion. Let's say it was a success. I didn't get not one complaint. To my knowledge everyone loved it. I had my disappointments. The turn out should've been a lot better but oh well. So many people clicked going on the event page and didn't show up. It wasn't a bad turn out but there should've been more people. The speakers spent way too much time talking about me but it was humbly honorable. I'm grateful and most importantly I'm glad it's over. I'm out of the event planning business for about two years.
