Week 691: Initiate Lazy Days

Weekly Written Review 

Upon completing my footage-dumping assignment, a string of lazy days was initiated. My lazy days are unmotivated and very low-spirited. I don't like it but it's necessary. It's time for my mind to shut down. It's been on hyperspeed for over two years. I'll probably continue through the rest of the year with a few assignments here or there.

Week 690: Cut Backs

Weekly Written Review 

Being good or trying to be good is sometimes a waste of time and energy especially when trying to help someone who doesn't get it. After visiting my Pop on Tuesday, I decided it was time to cut back. No more chicken, rice, and sodas. I'm tired. He doesn't fight for me and food is all cares about.

Week 689: Editing Free?

Weekly Written Review 

Since I finished my docuseries, I was supposed to be free from editing. Then came the podcast. I did much more editing than anticipated. In addition to that, I decided to produce a mini pickleball documentary last month. Well, as of this week, I posted the Sip & Chat Cafe trailer and I declare myself free. I need to be for a while before any new major projects. At least six months to a year of no major editing. We'll see what happens.

Week 688: Plantar fasciitis

Weekly Written Review 

For a while now, I would wake up with my feet feeling tight in the morning but at some point this year it got really bad. My partner describes it as plantar fasciitis. There have been moments where I could barely walk in the morning. I was forced to invest in some orthopedic sandals and started soaking my feet last month. Thankfully, there wasn't much pain when it was time to play sports but the aftermath was real. 

On Tuesday, it got bad resulting in a lost tennis match I should've won. The feet weren't the only issue. I had a bad racquet, it was in the morning and the sun was impacting my serve. 

Nonetheless, I'm glad it happened. I immediately made adjustments. Epsom salt for soaking my feet. Demoed a new racquet and played the next match at night. 

My feet are not perfect but it's better. Less than two weeks later, I soaked my in ice, instead of hot water, which I was doing before. I also got some compression soaks in Week 690.

Between editing the pickleball tournament and the Sip & Chat Cafe trailer, I'm editing a lot right now. I should be on an editing hiatus but that's not my reality. Editing is something I try to run from but I never can evade it for long. I enjoy editing but my sessions are intense. 12 plus hours per day in front of a computer. A decent break is needed before I embark upon my next project.

Week 686: Pickleball Tourney Results

Weekly Written Review 

Third place is the result of my first pickleball tourney with my teammate Atarah on Saturday. We had a bad start in the first two games. We showed up in the next two. We got close in the semi-finals. Lost by two. That team ended up winning and we gave them a better challenge than their opponents in the finals. Overall a great experience. Shoutouts to the YMCA for hosting.

Week 683: Multi Camera Editing

Weekly Written Review 

The plan was strictly audio for the podcast. That's until I got the idea to video record at least one episode per season. This weekend's shoot ended up using 3 cameras. Two cell phones and a DSLR camera. In post-production, I used Preimere's multi-camera editing feature for the first time. It turned out to be a good learning experience.

Week 680: First Audition in Over 3 Years

Weekly Written Review 

Not long after I got back, I got a notification for an audition becoming my first audition in over 3 years. Plus, it was for a lead role. I enjoyed the prep. The process was good. I had the best help. I'm glad I did it and I had a sense of hope after submitting but that didn't last long. Decisions for shows can take a while but I'm assuming they won't take long in most cases. I'll never know if they liked my character interpretation and it probably doesn't matter if I was great or not. I later learned that even though I'm on SAG hiatus, I'm most likely not eligible for a non-union project. I'll have to follow up on that research another day.

Week 679: Disappointing Launch

Weekly Written Review 

As soon as Audacity of Host went live last on Tubi on Friday, I started a soft launch, prepping for a blast on Tuesday. 3 weeks later, now writing this post, marketing has been disappointing. My delusional mind tricks me again. For months I've envisioned responses of excitement from people involved but that's not the case. I can acknowledge cool feedback from a couple people but not much from people I actually interviewed. Not one phone call. Oh well. I did put out a few paid ads and the results are much better from strangers.

Week 678: Prep Season Approaching and A Soft Launch

In an email, I got a question about one of my upcoming projects and it went from being a single title to a docuseries. Bottom line, it's almost time to start developing. I'll be ready during the holidays. 

Since July 19th, I've checked Amazon daily, waiting for AOH to arrive. Since August, I started checking Amazon and Tubi for it's arrival. Since Amazon was first, I was expecting it any day now. To my surprise, it arrived on Tubi on Friday and ignited immediate preparation. A soft launch, setting myself up for a full launch next week.

Week 677: Twilight is Back!

Weekly Written Review 

Last week I paid $5.00 to submit to a role with a 90's description. First time I submitted to anything in a long while. I paid for the submission because I don't have a subscription. To my surprise, I wasn't selected but I began wondering if I should reenter the life of auditions again. I concluded, yes and no. Mostly no because I don't want to fully indulge in that type of life anymore but I'll take whatever comes to me. Then on Wednesday, I received a surprise email from my agent from over 3 1/2 years ago. They're back in business and it appears we're a team again.

When the pandemic hit in 2020, they vanished without explanation. Now that they're back, an explanation would be nice but it's not that serious. I'll take the representation and keep it moving. If I book one or two things and put a little money in my pocket, why not. This came without effort and I have no expectations. That's my preferred approach to the entertainment industry.

Week 676: First TIme Golfer

I played golf for the first time on Friday. It was cool. The experience was a little rushed because a group behind. Golf isn't my favorite but I'll try it again. I'm more interested in trying miniature golf next time before I go on a 9-hole field again. I need to work my way up. I was very raw on Friday. Most were bad hits but I got a few good ones in between.

Week 675: Emptiness

Weekly Written Review

In-between projects isn't a great place for me. I function better when I'm full speed ahead on a vision. Podcast developments have been nice but it's not immersive enough for my soul. Playing sports is my only happy place. When I'm done playing, I experience immediate withdrawal. My days off are worst. I force myself to rest my body for 2 or 3 days a week and it renders my spirit lifeless. 

Nonetheless, I need this mental rest before I embark on a new creative journey. I also need my series to go live to complete the mission. This is week 5 and counting. Waiting isn't fun. 

Meanwhile, I found a couple temporary fillers. I started watching Beef which is good. I play tennis with one of the actors. Plus, Fortnite dropped a new season on Friday. I'll take what I can get until I'm fully rejuvenated. 

Lastly, I submitted for an acting gig for the first time in a long time this week. It got me contemplating whether I should start submitting again in the near future. Maybe... We'll see.

Week 674: The Prank Panel Famous

Weekly Written Review

Over the years, when I appeared on television, at least one person tags me in a post. It happened on Thursday and it's nice to know that the trend continues after appearing on The Prank Panel on Thursday. The recording took place in September 2022. It was a mixed experience for me. I was disappointed my pitch wasn't selected and how the panel responded but the prank they executed on me after my pitch was an unexpected nice touch. 

The next day, I showed up at a tennis event. After I introduced myself a young lady, a 77-year-old man with a full gray beard emphatically shouted, "Motown! I saw you on TV last night." That was a priceless moment. 

Recently it dawned on me that some of my sports clothes are too baggy, torn up, and out of style. I went clothes shopping on Friday and I've been getting compliments ever since.

Sometimes it's okay to let your imagination run wild. In the past, I would fight and restrict prosperous thoughts but that's not fun. Recently, I allowed myself to imagine a post-lottery-winning life. There's a little withdrawal when your numbers end up not matching but that's okay. I'm happy for the winner and I will rinse and repeat the next time the lottery is north of a billion.

Week 670: Record Delivery

Weekly Written Review

AOH was approved last Friday. 5 days later, it was delivered and selected to Amazon Prime Video. That's record timing. Normally, the process is "selected" and then wait for it to be "delivered" followed by waiting some more. 3 weeks later, I'm still waiting for it to go live. Nonetheless, Amazon Prime Video is an exciting platform to host my series. I wasn't expecting it to go there first or so soon. The unexpected has revamped AOH's marketing strategy, now, patience is key.

Week 667: Familiar Fail

Weekly Written Review 

"Disappointment builds a foundation". That's what my mom's father use to tell her. My series failed the quality control test but it's not as bad as it sounds. The main issue was the frame rate. I had to change it from 60fps to 30fps. Plus, some adjustments with the credits. The changes and upload took a week to complete (no thanks to Spectrum's wack upload speeds. Got rid of it shortly afterward) but I was able to fix a few things I missed in the last upload and there were even a few things that I overlooked. All my previous projects failed the first pass, it's a tradition at this point.

After a 3 year hiatus, I renewed my YMCA membership. Just over 3 years ago, I also tried Pickleball for the first time, and I wasn't impressed. I retried Pickleball a little over 24hrs after returning to the Y, and I had a good time. Pickleball will not replace tennis. I learned it complements tennis. I'm also back at the Y for basketball. I'm a tri-factor now.

I thought I was done until I realized there was still an abundance of sound issues. I was going to let some of it slide, but after hearing more through a headset, I had to find a fix. The solution was Adobe Audition. I tinkered with it before but didn't properly incorporate it into my workflow. Ultimately this leads to a delayed finish, but I have no deadline. The extra polish is 100% worth it.

Week 657: RIP Godmom

Weekly Written Review

I woke up Tuesday morning to sad news about my aunt in N.Y. She didn't have children of her own and in many ways, she loved me like her own child. My aunt was very special to me. My most significant childhood appreciation was the fact she bought me my first Nintendo when my parents wouldn't. We were close, but in recent months, I have chosen not to be. I don't view my actions as regret, but I do wish she didn't worry so much and that we had more productive conversations. Perhaps I was wishing too much.

Upon the news, I was planning to go to my birthplace to take care of her arrangements, but her siblings have their own ideas, and I will respect them. In the depths of my heart, I wish I had the privilege to be there in her last moments. 

I love you, Aunty Bern. I will honor you by bringing good to the world using all the love you have invested in me.

Playing basketball this week broke my boujee attitude toward street basketball. I haven't played much since the pandemic, partly because indoor basketball at the YMCA spoiled me. Playing at the park on Sunday was rewarding and fun. I have a renewed mindset about playing outdoor basketball again and I look forward to doing more asap.

Week 650: Unremarkable

Weekly Written Review

For the first time, I attended/scheduled a health care checkup on Tuesday. The only other times I've had a check-up were probably for sports in high school and a reality show consideration in 2011. The results were clean. Blood test, normal. I had one cholesterol point above the target, but not enough to recommend anything. I believe it's genetic. I remember a doctor telling my mom my cholesterol was high when I was a kid. Since then, I rarely ate fried foods. Out of caution, the doctor suggested an ultrasound to check something around my neck, and the results were unremarkable.
