Week 449: SyFy Shadow Drop

Weekly Written Review

Early Sunday morning, I got two messages from two different people telling me that they saw my movie on TV. I immediately thought of Snake Outta Compton but that didn't make any sense. Snake doesn't air on TV. A little bit later, one of my fans reached out to me on Linkedin and congratulated me about Snake Outta Compton airing on the SyFy channel. I was shocked because I had no clue. I reached out to the director via text and he had no clue either.

A week later, I still don't know the deal with it airing on the SyFy channel. I've checked their website and there's no information about Snake Outta Compton listed. I don't know if it will air again or not. Prior to its disruption deal with Lionsgate I hoped that it would find a home on the SyFy channel and take a similar path like Sharknado but that's still to be determined.

In other events, I decided that I was done submitting my screenplay this week. I had a few more competitions in consideration I didn't want to be bothered. I submitted to a total of eight recently and I'm content with that. I can't submit to them all. For now, I'm moving out of the way to allow the universe to step in and do its work.

Then in the final news segment, I was called out as a famous actor during an open mic show at Tribal Cafe this week. I treated a fellow actor, Riki who looked at for me with the Dhar Mann videos and during our meet up, a standup comic looked at me and said, I looked like a famous actor. I downplayed that whole situation but when he was done the topic resurfaced. The host came on and followed up with questions. She asked if I'm an actor and Riki let the crowd know about Snake Outta Compton. The intimate crowd was intrigued and a few people started shouting out my name. Then came another comic named Terrance and he confirmed that Snake Outta Compton was real. He looked it up and also joked about not seeing the film because it has a low IMDB score. I became the center of attention for almost the rest of the night. The host came back on with more questions and I was proud to answer.

I don't go out seeking attention but when it organically arrives I appreciate it.

Week 448: Political Future

Weekly Written Review

Perhaps I might have a political future one day. Not! I'm not a fan of politics and I'm pretty sure I never will be. If for so odd reason my life takes an unexpected turn of events and I end of in politics I'll map back to this week. I was invited to speak out at a city council meeting on Wednesday, and I appreciate the experience. My tennis group had an issue with the city abruptly adding a Hold Harmless Clause to tennis playing policies in certain areas. I was invited to share my story and point of view. While on the bus, on the way there, I jotted down a few notes and spoke when it was my turn. I noticed immediately that I had the council's undivided attention. After everyone in my group spoke, they hit me with a barrage of compliments. Later that same day I found out, the city removed the Hold Harmless Clause.

It's possible that my presence made an immediate impact or it was because the council was tired of hearing about this tennis issue. This was my first time attending but my group attended about 2 or 3 of these meeting before me.

This experience doesn't spark my interests in politics but I'm glad that I was able to exercise my rights as a taxpayer and voter.

Week 447: Slowest Week Ever

Weekly Written Review

Last Week 446 bestowed the biggest callback of my quest and then came this slow week. I wasn't expecting an actual booking but I also wasn't anticipating a super slow following week. I also believe part the reason this week lagged some much is because I'm scheduled to meet an interesting person in the beginning of next week. Each day added a little more hype and excitement. Knowing what I know now (the date publishing this post) it was well worth fighting through seven incredible sluggish days.

Week 446: 24hr Purge - Don't Stop Me Now

Weekly Written Review

On Wednesday, March 13th/Week 443, I sent in an audition video that I really enjoyed producing. I developed the character and took advantage of his temper outbursts. It was fun. When I enjoy a self-tape, I'll send it in, continue to review it a few times, dismiss it, then move forward. The very next day my agent emailed me about the audition stating that casting needs me to sign an NDA. This is interesting and unusual because I'm accustomed to signing an NDA after I book the gig. Normally I sign NDA's on the first day of the shoot. I don't recall ever signing an NDA after sending in an audition tape. It's possible I might've done that before but I doubt it. I signed it, then downplayed the action. They probably sent it to everybody that auditioned for the role. It doesn't make sense to get too excited over nothing. It's a big role for a big network so they're probably being extra cautious.

On Monday of this week, I got that Actors Access cMail notification. That's like hitting the lottery, in most cases. I checked it and noticed I have an upcoming audition on Thursday. Upon closer review, the description started to look really familiar. To my surprise, it's actually a callback from the Week 443 audition. This is kind of a big deal because I've never a truly had a callback for a speaking role from a big network before. This is my first. It's great news but I played it cool. I dedicated most of my Thursday to prepping for the callback. The audition time was set for 4:45pm. I got there before 4pm and patiently waited until my time. I was prepared to do the same thing I did in my self-tape. That's not what they wanted. After the first take, I was given a new direction. I took the direction, applied it and the response was "perfect." The same thing happened with the second scene and I got the same response. I got direction for the third scene and it was unnecessary to do a second take. She liked it. They thanked me for coming and I went on my way. On the way home, I wanted to treat myself to a fruit drink but I opted out for some tamarind.

Slowly after leaving the audition, my spirit began to drift below the surface. I didn't want to do anything but lay down and sleep. There's something about the audition process, particularly the audition room that weakens my moral after the experience.  Just over 24hrs later I was back in full effect. Then I remembered I have a recovery process. I need at least 24hrs to purge myself auditions I'm fully invested in. The audition is now behind me but the opportunity slides in and out of my mind from time to time. Over the weekend, I concluded that I did pretty good at the callback. I took their direction and applied it. There's a chance every actor did well at the callback. It will probably come down to looks. The question is, does my look fit with the looks of the family they're trying to put together? It's not in my hands anymore. I gave my all and I believe my all represented quality.

It's a big project and I overheard casting talking about offers being sent out. They start shooting May 20 - October. I'm assuming they'll inform the actor that booked the role early next week (447). This callback represents my first callback for a supporting role for a well-known network so that within itself is a big accomplishment. I just got to keep pushing and fighting for more callbacks like this. More callbacks like this are in my future and that special booking isn't far behind.

In the words of Fredy Mercury,
I'm a shooting star, leaping through the sky
Like a tiger defying the laws of gravity
I'm a racing car, passing by like Lady Godiva
I'm gonna go, go, go
There's no stopping me
I'm burnin' through the sky, yeah
Two hundred degrees
That's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit
I'm traveling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic man out of you
Don't stop me now, I'm having such a good time
I'm having a ball
Don't stop me now
If you wanna have a good time, just give me a call
Don't stop me now ('cause I'm having a good time)
Don't stop me now (yes, I'm havin' a good time)
I don't want to stop at all
I became obsessed with this song over the weekend. It's good nutrition for the soul. Listen for yourself.

Week 445: Justification

Weekly Written Review

Since 2016, I've been assisting a nonprofit organization named Aaron's House with a myriad of creative duties. They've even flown me in every May for the past 3 years for their annual fundraiser. In preparation for their 4 annual, when asked,  I decided not to take the trip. I plan to continue helping but I have to maintain focus in LA. It's part of my commitment to my focus. My focus toward making/allowing something significant happen to my journey. It's time. I'm ready, open and available. I was chatting with my mom earlier this week (or perhaps last week) about my decision and she said, "You have a good spirit." She basically said my spirit guides me with my decisions.

In week 440, I got what was probably the best phone call in my acting journey. I was being considered for a show that wanted to hire me as a comedy actor/writer. I never heard back and but I've been on this journey long enough to know that one disappointing call leads to an encouraging one. Then on Saturday, of this week, I got a text asking about my availability and my answer lead to an immediate phone call. The details consisted of an an automatic booking for a feature film shooting out of town in May. No audition required. As a matter of fact, the call was from a director that I worked with recently. The project is still confidential and of course, nothing is officially confirmed until I sign a contract. Nonetheless, that phone call provided justification for not taking the Aaron's House trip to Florida in May (the dates conflict) and for also not booking the gig with Studio-C. If I got the Studio-C gig, I would've had to relocate to Utah immediately until September. There were several reasons not to accept but I would've bypassed those reasons for the single pleasure of working. Sometimes you have to let go and let God as they say in church. Also on Saturday, I got a phone call from a lady I met on Christmas day 2017. We both missed our flights and got to know each other meanwhile. She shared her writing updates with me and I shared my own. She also shared a beautiful bible Psalm in which I can't remember the verse but it spoke of establishment and it inspired me to share my story of Justification with her. My spirits and I are in sync. It's time. To the month of May and beyond.

Week 444: - Screenplay Free Kinda Sorta - Retirement Tour

Weekly Written Review

This week I got some feedback about my screenplay from two great people. The same screenplay I've been rereading and rewriting since around February 2nd. Next, I corrected the typos and added an additional scene inspired by one of the readers. On Wednesday, I got awarded a 30-page table read scholarship. That same night I did some independent research and found out about diversity scholarship for up and coming writers. I thought I was about to be free from my screenplay but I was actually setting myself up for more screenplay momentum. I also decided while my writing powers are heightened I need to keep writing. I developed a TV show idea last year and now is a good time to gear up and write the actual pilot episode. Writing a short film won't hurt either. When I start submitting my screenplay to various contests, it doesn't hurt to have a few other scripts ready to go. I'm not situated yet to start writing more but at least I made the decision to. I jampacked my week with small accomplishments and prepared myself to escort someone I met in Florida years-ago around the city of LA for 3 days. I had the pleasure of showing the lovely Jen (with one n) the city of LA for 3 days. This was my 3rd time playing tour guide since I relocated here. The last time was in October and the first time was in 2012). It's always an honor to serve and assist people from my past. Especially the ones that have helped me out along the way. There was were some cool moments in Tour Guide 3.0. At the same time, I think it's in my best interest to retire from being a tour guide. When I evaluate all 3 experiences, I noticed it's a bit challenging to sync energies with people from the outside world. There are probably several different reasons that may contribute to this challenge but it's nothing one party can fix. Time and understanding would help but who takes a vacation and puts time and understanding on their to-do list? It's not like there's a herd of people trying to visit me anyway. If there was, I wouldn't be able to handle it because I'm a true-hearted loner. I'm reminded of my natural state whenever I take duties outside of it.
