Weekly Written Review
I wrapped up conducting my first pickleball on Thursday, and it was a success. Here's the breakdown.
Thursday’s finals was an exhilarating nail‑biter from start to finish. The games were grueling, evenly matched, and packed with competitive fire. Radickle and Brazos Oros clashed in a best‑of‑three match, with each match made up of three games — Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed. In this format, the games are timed and total match points ruled.
Brazos Oros struck first, taking Match 1 with a commanding 32–21. The next three games could decide the victory. Radickle said, “Hold my paddle,” and returned the favor with a score flip, 32–21 win in Match 2. Wild!!
That set the stage for a match tiebreaker — but with a twist. You can’t just win by one or two. You must win by 6 or more, or go to overtime. Brazos Oros battled through Match 3 and finished ahead 24–21, a 3‑point lead… not enough. After 9 games/3 matches, now overtime: a race to 7, rally scoring, with everything on the line.
It was minutes before 9 pm. The Y is soon closing. Every point felt like a heartbeat. Tensions high. Emotions frantic. Brazos Oros won the coin toss to determine serve, and the battle began.
In the final surge, Brazos Oros rose above, taking overtime 7–3, becoming our first-ever league champions. You had to be there. It was one for the ages.
